Our Top 5 Baby Must-Haves

The must haves for baby...everyone has their own list. Eight months in and here is what we could not live without in our house.


Aden + Anais Muslin Swaddle Cloths

 These Swaddles are amazing! They are baby soft and the patterns are lovely.Not only can you use them to swaddle the baby they are perfect for a blankie, play matt, nursing cover, burp cloth, and in a desperate scenario, a baby toga (not that I've had experience with the toga...always have extra clothes in the diaper bag and the car for good measure, just sayin'). We carry one at all times.

 Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes

 I did not think much about this toy when we received it as a gift at our shower, but it was not long before we realized it would be on our favorites list. Some musical toys have annoying little chintzy tunes. This toy plays classical music accompanied by dancing lights. Baby is mesmerized by it! And as he gets older he can hold and teeth on it more. It is especially handy in the car at night. The music and lights offer just enough distraction to provide time to remedy whatever uncomfortableness occurring.

 ABC Arbonne Baby Care

 We love all our Arbonne Baby Care products. Botanically based, without the fragrances and chemicals, Baby stays squeaky clean while smelling like Baby and not the product. The Diaper Rash Cream clears up any redness quickly (within a few applications at most is what we've found).

 Philips Avent Pacifiers

 We have what we call a little Binky Boy in our home. From early on Philips Avent were the only pacifiers he would take. I loved the clear ones, at first, because you could still see Baby's face. That advantage was quickly overshadowed by the fact that we were constantly loosing them while staring right at them on the ground (tired parents, I know). So we quickly replaced the clear with colors. And speaking of lost binkies, I just discovered their nighttime pacifiers! What's the difference? You may have guessed it; they glow in the dark!

 Dr. Brown's Lovey Pacifier Holder

 And saving the best for last, is a little fellow we affectionately call: Hercules. This was another baby item I wasn't sure about at first. When Baby was little and drop the pacifier out of his mouth, Hercules was just heavy enough to keep it nearby and Baby could get it back in his mouth. Now that Baby's older, Hercules still gets lots of cuddles, slobbery kisses, and teething back massages.
Exhibit A for the glories of Hercules and necessity of colored pacifiers.

 You can bet at our next baby shower the new Mama will be receiving a few of these items to help celebrate her new little blessing...or we might throw in Baby's new favorite thing...

11:11, I Wished for You

"11:11; make a wish. But you have to dance until 11:12 if you want it to come true."

So that's what we did, my friend who is the closest thing to Anne Shirley in real life and I did. To make matters more scrumptious her strawberry blonde locks paired with my brunette made the options for Halloween delightful.

I never asked for an explanation behind the significance of this ritual. To be honest, I never thought of it. All I needed to know was that her mother, who lost her fight to cancer the semester before, had taught her to stop everything and dance and dream for two minutes a day. So we danced and dreamed. Now a decade later and the time always transports me back to the image of a girl dancing in joy despite grief with dreams of life overcoming death.

My soul cried and sang when I heard the words:
"Time of birth: 11:11 a.m."
Our son came into the world Easter morning, and it is only fitting his birth would take place at a time that encapsulates the whole day- a time of hope and joy in the faithfulness of Our Lord. Now when I gaze into those little eyes, I am reminded of the goodness of God, not just because life is a precious gift, but because twice a day for a decade-

11:11, I wished for you.

Boy vs. Girl - 37 Weeks

My sisters threw an adorable pink and blue penguin baby shower for us in January.
Since we are waiting to find out if Baby is a boy or girl,
we had to take a vote on what everyone thought baby would be.
The vote, of course, was preceded by modeling my changed figure and various questions based on old wives tales used to decipher the sex. I thought it would be fun to share some of those questions with you and my answers. Cast your vote in the comments and we'll see who is correct in the end!

33 weeks

Carrying High or Low

Ugh, how do you tell?
Some people say I'm carrying high, others say low.
I am of the opinion that both might be right.
The blessings of being short waisted.

Girl: 0
Boy: 0

Nausea

Oh, yes.

Girl: 1
Boy: 0

34 weeks
Basketball vs. Football

Basketball

Girl: 2
Boy: 0
 
Craving Sweets or Meats

Peanut butter is protein, so I'll count that as a meat, but then I'm also craving salads and fruit...
but any meal without protein doesn't satisfy me, so I'm leaning towards the meats category.

I am discounting my ice cream cravings,
because I have never met a pregnant woman that doesn't want ice cream.

Girl: 2
Boy: 1

35 weeks

Chinese Predictor

I took it twice on two different sites: one said boy, one said girl. 
Another draw.

Girl: 2
Boy: 1

Clumsiness

I'm not sure how this is a predictor.
It seems to me that weight gain over a short period of time would always lead to clumsiness
and what if one was clumsy prior to pregnancy?

Girl: 2
Boy: 2

36 weeks

Dad's Weight

B has gained a few Daddy Pounds.
Nothing returning to the gym after months of overtime won't fix.


Girl: 3
Boy: 2

 Sleep Position

I cannot sleep on my right side at all.
From what I can tell, Baby is facing the right side and must be a back sleeper.

Girl: 3
Boy: 3 

37 weeks
 
 Heart Rate

Baby's Heart Rate at first was lower, then it was right at 140, 
and now it's consistently in the 150-160 range.

 Girl: 4
Boy:3

Word on the Street

Most people tell me it's a boy.
That was the consensus at my shower.

Girl: 4
Boy: 4

Mother's Intuition

As soon as I think it might be a boy/girl, then my intuition kicks in 
and tells me I must be wrong,
convincing me it must be the opposite.
I have had dreams about labor, but none that included seeing the Baby.
All I ever see is a blanket around our little bundle of joy.

Girl: 4
Boy: 4

Hooray!
It's a baby!

31 Weeks

I love reading pregnancy updates.
They are such fun!
 
But when it comes to doing them myself...
my track record hasn't been great.
Getting pictures with me in them is something in general I have to remind myself to do.
 
I was inspired by Jess and her beautiful update to get back at it.
I made it my mini-resolution to take more pictures to document this pregnancy and our preparations for Baby. I'm holding myself accountable and joining the Picture Perfect monthly link up.

How far along:
 
31 weeks

Weight gain:
 
You weigh about 3.5 pounds and are 16 inches long!
Some days I think you must be bigger than that,
but other days I wonder how squished you must feel.

Nicknames: 

Baby and Little One

What I'm wearing:
 
Mommy's wardrobe is getting smaller again.

My innie can't be called an innie so much now, but it's not yet an outie!

Peanut butter, salads, comfort food, and a margarita.

Tiny dancer is stuck in my head because of you!
I knew you wouldn't be still all the time,
but I never realized how much you would move.
I think I'll miss feeling you this way.

Symptoms: 

Sometimes I would forget I was pregnant until I looked in the mirror.
Now I feel very much pregnant all the time.

Miss anything: 
 
Sleep...energy...
but most of all being able to do things on my own.

Best moment: 

When Daddy felt you move for the first time.

Worst moment:

Having contractions the week of Christmas.
You scared Mommy something awful!
I am so glad they didn't progress.

Favorite memories: 

Hearing your heartbeat.
I could listen to that little heart for hours.
